Heart Boxes

Heartiversaries. They’re celebrated a year, a month (or whenever, really) to commemorate a heart warrior’s last open heart surgery. It’s a celebration of their strength and resilience.

At Geek Party, we’ve created specially curated party-in-a-box for Heart Warriors celebrating their heartiversaries (milestones, birthdays, etc).

These Heart Boxes contain all that you would find in a Party in a Box, but for their immediate family (4 people). You’ll find plates, cups, balloons, utensils and a couple surprises for your heart warrior to celebrate their day.

Heart Boxes are provided FREE of charge to kids living with congenital heart defects and can be hand delivered within Metro Vancouver.

If you are currently in-patient at BC Children’s Hospital, we will also deliver the Heart Boxes to you there practicing physical distancing guidelines.

Latest News (August 29, 2020): We are now in full swing and shipping Heart Boxes across BC thanks to our generous donors and the Children’s Heart Network for sponsoring our shipping costs!

Notes:

Please note that we take your family’s health seriously. All items packed in the box will be cleaned, sanitized and placed in new, clean resealable bags (if applicable). I will be wearing PPE (personal protective equipment) when handling and packing items.

When hand delivered, the box will also be wiped down with disinfectant. We will deliver through contactless delivery, you will receive a text when it is outside your home.

If you are at BC Children’s Hospital, we will deliver through contactless delivery: you will receive a text when we are outside and we will drop it near the entrance and wait for you from a safe distance to retrieve the box to ensure that you have received it (and give you a hearty wave!).

Your personal information will always be kept confidential. We use your contact to ensure proper delivery. Once we have delivered your box, we will no longer keep your address or information on file – you are always free to contact us though!!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Why are you making these?

When Winston was in for his first open heart surgery (just shy of 3 months old) and recovering in Cardiac Intensive Care, we had a neighbour who was much younger than he was and was mostly alone for the day. I peeked inside and saw banners and photos of all the people who loved her. It is so important for these heart warriors to know they’re loved. I wanted to spread the happiness with other heart families.

Are these coming from your own pocket?

A portion of all of GeekParty’s revenue goes to the basics in the box: plates, cups, cutlery, tissue paper, streamers, balloons. We’ve had many businesses and personal donations to add gifts and other items to the boxes and also sponsor shipping costs.

What items are needed for the boxes?

The age range for recipients have been 3 months to 17 years of age. I love to keep things educational or functional but just imagine what a kid would like to get for a birthday and that’s what we’re looking for!

How can I donate?

How much does it cost to create a box? Can I sponsor a box?

It costs typically $30-40 per box (not including shipping). The gifts are usually the most costly part of the box. And yes, you can sponsor a box – you can even leave a custom message for the recipient!
